Cities and Regions Climate Plans Already the Best the World has Never Heard Of

DECEMBER 12  , Beyond Zero Emissions

"Australian cities and regions have climate solutions among the best in the world and all these communities ask is that the Australian Government stand alongside..."

PARIS, 12 December 2015 -- Following a fortnight of unprecedented global collaboration and climate solutions momentum Beyond Zero Emissions Inc points out that while government cooperation would be welcomed, it now appears that Australian cities and regions intend to team with international partners and use existing technologies  to set and meet their own world-leading targets.

“Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is in ‘astute’ company as an advocate of innovation as a solution to the climate crisis.” said Dr. Stephen Bygrave, CEO of Beyond Zero Emissions. “But implying we need to wait for more innovation is delaying what is effective and profitable to do at scale right now. The fact is the technology needed is here already – every piece of renewables and energy saving technology installed today starts to turn the crisis around today. Innovation is constant, but the implication we heard alot at COP21 - that we need to somehow ‘wait for it’ before acting on climate - is way off the mark.

“What does real innovation for Australia look like? It looks as simple as a just and effective transition to 100% renewables within 10-15 years. This week the whole world has discovered this is a truly wicked problem in need of a solution that ironically already exists,” Bygrave said.

“In Australia the people with the innovative solutions right now are leading state Premiers, Climate Change and Chief Ministers, Mayors, Councillors and businesses -  people who have been paying attention to the science for decades and are already setting their communities towards sustainable 100% Renewable Energy futures.

“Mr. Turnbull, Mr Briggs and Mr Frydenberg should make it a priority to visit the cities and regions so applauded at COP21 for their zero emissions visions and plans. Australian cities and regions have climate solutions among the best in the world and all these communities ask is that the Australian Government stand alongside, not against, them as they work to avert the worst of climate change”, he said.
