Zero Carbon Australia. It's time.

As a Baseload Report reader you know there is not enough time to debate whether a rapid zero emissions transition is possible in Australia - and there is no need to - the Zero Carbon Australia project has already spent 10 years showing in great detail how it can be done across every sector of the economy, with study after study in support.

Everyone's talking about it ...
With your help, now is the time to get the Zero Carbon Australia plan into the hands of every Australian decision maker.

Renewable Energy Superpower National Tour

Renewable Energy Superpower Adelaide

Port Augusta in South Australia is currently a hotspot for bipartisan government funding pledges for large scale Australian solar thermal and coal-fired power transitions.

Solar thermal is one of the keys to Australia's 100% renewable energy powered future, so it was with great delight that BZE was able to share the Renewable Energy Superpower Adelaide launch with Repower Port Augusta's Lisa Lumsden. Many thanks also go to our generous VIP's for presentations on the night: Greens Federal Senator for South Australia Robert Simms and the Hon Mark Butler MP Labor Shadow Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Water.

A big thank you to Adelaide event partners, Friends of the Earth Adelaide, and the South Australian Conservation Council, and our panelists, pictured L-R: Darrin Spinks, Executive Chair, HeliostatSA, Robert Simms, Mark Butler, Lisa Lumsden, Repower Port Augusta, Andrew Bray, National Coordinator, Australian Wind Alliance, Hugh Saddler, Adjunct Associate Professor, Crawford School, ANU and Dr Stephen Bygrave CEO BZE. Image credit Michael Kubler. Renewable Energy Superpower Newcastle

"What's next after coal" is of special interest in Newcastle so the Newcastle Renewable Energy Superpower Plan launch was a collaborative panel discussion on the future of Australia as a renewable energy superpower.

On behalf of the BZE Newcastle team, a big thank you to all our panelists and VIP's, pictured L-R Prof. Paul Dastoor, University of Newcastle, Centre for Organic Electronics, Dr John MacKenzie, Greens candidate for Newcastle, the Hon Sharon Claydon MP, Federal Member for Newcastle, ALP, Tim de Grauw, Engineers Australia, Newcastle chapter President, Maryanne Cantwell, General Manager, HCB Solar, Dr Stephen Bygrave CEO BZE. Not pictured MC's Jen Bates and Dr Bonnie McBain, School of Environmental & Life Sciences, University of Newcastle.

Renewable Energy Superpower Noosa

As reported recently in The Courier Mail there is an increasing public awareness of the many billions in investment and regional job growth for Queensland that will result from increasing Australia's renewable energy targets. This is top of mind for the many Sunshine Coast families with connections to the resources sector who are at the same time looking to be part of a zero emissions future.

Thank you to Noosa Renewable Energy Superpower launch event host Noosa Biosphere and panelists (pictured L-R) Professor Tim Smith, Director, Sustainability Research Centre -  University of the Sunshine Coast, Stephanie Moroz, CEO of Nano-Nouvelle, and Peter Fries, journalist & filmmaker along with Dr Stephen Bygrave and Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington with an all-electric Tesla. BZE was invited to Noosa to discuss a concept being nicknamed ' ZEN' - Zero Emissions Noosa, an ambitious council-wide emissions reduction strategy.

Electric Vehicles

The Beyond Zero Emissions Zero Carbon Australia project is a 10 year transition in every sector, acknowledging that urgent emissions reductions are both required and possible.

The BZE Electric Vehicle plan, which will be ready for release in the next few months, is no exception.

This report looks at how it's economic to transition Australia's entire passenger fleet to electric vehicles and finds that it's also more cost effective to transition Australia's bus fleet to electric vehicles than to replace with conventional buses. The report highlights the importance of complimentary technologies in public transport and car sharing to making the task of transitioning the fleet easier, by reducing the number of new vehicles required to complete the transition to zero emissions transport.

9 Steps to Energy Freedom

Go to Energy Freedom - Heating and Cooling  to find out how looking at your home's space heating will help you get off gas, cut power bills, add value and have a perfectly comfortable (southern states) winter.

People with reverse cycle air conditioners installed for cooling often do not know that they can also be used to heat, and in fact often be the cheapest and most energy efficient way to warm a space.

BZE at the Australian Local Government Association General Assembly

Beyond Zero Emissions is co-hosting the Innovations for the Environment concurrent session at the ALGA 2016 General Assembly on June 21st in Canberra. We'll be releasing the results of our local government survey on ambitious community-wide climate action and be part of an expert panel along with Anna Leidreiter, the World Future Council (by video), Cr Simon Richardson, Mayor of Byron Shire Council and Denis Ginnivan from Totally Renewable Yakandandah.

It's also a chance to grab a copy of any of our reports, including the Energy Freedom Home book - these publications form the technical basis of the Beyond Zero Emissions Zero Carbon Communities project.
